Start by creating a parenting schedule

Separating from your partner when you have children can be tough for you – and for the kids. It’s important that any decisions you make about parenting are in your children’s best interests.

Start by making a parenting schedule on your phone or computer. There is an interactive weekly calendar that allows you both to select the preferred days with your children then choose handover days, times, and locations that work for both of you.

Yes, include this statement, 2.No, don’t include this statement.

Next, agree on the big and small things

Follow amica’s step-by-step guidance to both agree on things like: • School holidays – long and short • Special occasions • Education • Health • Travel • Finances • Communication methods and tone • Religious and cultural practices • Making changes to arrangements amica provides suggestions and allows you both to decide and agree on what works best for you and the children so you can include those in your agreement.

There is a pop up banner with the text: “Are you ready to create your parenting agreement document? Jamie has requested your parenting agreement document. You both need to confirm that you are ready to create your document as you can do this only once.” Below the banner is the text: “You can create a formal or informal agreement. You will both need to agree on the document type before you can create it. You can learn and choose the document type here: Learn about document types button.”

Create an agreement that outlines everything

Once you’ve agreed on a parenting schedule and included all the big and small things, you can view or download your parenting agreement which records what has been agreed. You have the option to turn your parenting agreement into a parenting plan if you decide that it is needed. Low cost options are available for people on low incomes.
